Ebook About THIS BOOK IS DOUBLE MASKED FOR YOUR SAFETY.The Coronavirus crisis led to the most extreme and widespread suspension of constitutional freedoms in American history, despite being based on myths and lies. From the beginning of the Coronavirus crisis in March of 2020, the media and politicians engaged in myths, half-truths, and even flat-out lies to bring about obedience from the populace. Charade tackles these myths one by one, laying bare the brazen power grab by governors, experts, and corporations all seeking to bend the American people to their will. David Marcus combines his reporting on the Coronavirus crisis with a cultural deep dive into how those in power used the emergency to consolidate power and change the very concept of American freedoms. Government, media, advertisers, and scientists all sought to set an agenda to strip Americans of their rights. From church attendance to running a business, right down to how many people can be in a private home, few rights were left wholly unchecked. What’s worse is that any challenge to the holy laws of lockdowns were criticized and censored as dangerous and deadly speech. The question that remains is whether Americans will ever allow this to happen again. Now the lies of 2020 can be revealed. No, Americans weren’t all in it together. It was not as simple as “trust the science.” Donald Trump was not a villain, Andrew Cuomo was not a hero, and lockdowns did vastly more harm than good. As America awakens from the nightmare of the Coronavirus crisis, it must learn lessons from it—but the first step is an honest accounting of all the rank dishonesty.Book Charade: The Covid Lies That Crushed A Nation Review :
We’ve reached the point where we can look at the Covid crisis through an objective, rational lens rather than panic. This book does that well. It does not deny the crisis or engage in half baked conspiracy theories about the virus being fake. But it does expose the ensuing nearly hysterical overreaction by those in charge. Arbitrary rules and benchmarks that make zero scientific sense. But worse than the irrational, fear based, yet well intentioned arbitrary rules, it exposes the cynical and shameless manipulation of a crisis for political ends, as well as the double standard of the lockdown lifestyle between the common people and the elites of every political stripe. I was expecting to find a narrative supported by documentation. Instead, this book almost entirely consists of the author's observations over the course of 2020. About the only useful documentation in the book is "Myth 1" chapter that uses HHS documentation to account for the Trump administrations actions in January to confront the coming pandemic. This was a revealing set of facts that the administration was not asleep at the switch at the beginning of 2020--too bad that the rest of the book did not follow this script, and instead related narrative that anyone watching events knew.I wanted to like the book, but there are just too many failures in this work. First, Marcus spends far too much time telling us about his life. I don't care that he is separated from his wife, smokes dope and drinks too much, has a small child, etc. A lot less self-absorption would have gone a long way. Second, this book is badly written. The published must have thought he did not need an editor. In high school this work would have been returned with an F for grammar. Third, in the rush to publish, the book has been rapidly overtaken by other events, now to include the increasing questions of the origins of the virus and the declining confidence in Fauci after the release of his emails. As the virus news has moved into 2021, the references in the book to "May" or "April" are confusing, since many of the issues of 2020 have bled into 2021. Finally, I have the highest respect for Mollie Hemingway and Ben Domenech of the Federalist. I am shocked that they carry such a lightweight on their staff.
